One of the most striking features of the inn is its convict-era kitchen, hailed as one of the finest examples of its kind in the country. Located in the cellars, this remarkable space showcases the incredible skill and craftsmanship of the convicts who built it. A hand-cut water well, ingeniously carved into the shale beneath the building, stands as a testament to their ingenuity.
The inn’s history with incarceration doesn’t end there. A preserved convict cell, complete with original iron shackles and hand-turned bars, offers a chilling glimpse into the harsh realities of life for those imprisoned during this era.
